Kirsten is making lanyards for a convention. She needs to make 1,000 lanyards and knows that 1 lanyards uses 1.75 feet of cord. How much cord will Kirsten need?

Kirsten's work is shown below:

1 x 1.75 = 1.75
10 x 1.75 = 10.75
100 x 1.75 = 100.75
1,000 x 1.75 = 1,000.75

Describe how Kirsten could have solved the problem without writing out the pattern needed.

when you are multiplying, you are supposed to multiply both the whole and partial numbers, for example 1.25 x 100 = 125
