We conclude that this is a mechanical wave, it can't travel without a medium
to carry it, it travels in the form of compressions and rarefactions of the medium,
and it's generally labeled a "longitudinal wave".

As a wave travels through a medium, it displaces the particle perpendicular to the motion of the wave. We can conclude that this is a a. longitudinal wave because of the direction that the wave travels.
