What is the value of x in the equation x-2/3 + 1/6 =5/6 ?

So in this problem we can see that 2 out of 3 of the fractions have a denominator of 6. One of the fractions (2/3) has a denominator of 3. But we can make the denominator 6 by multiplying it by 2!

Now the equation is:

x - 4/6 + 1/6 = 5/6

So now let's solve for x!

x - 4/6 + 1/6 = 5/6

x + 1/6 = 9/6 (Addition property of equality)

x = 8/6 (Subtraction property of equality)

Now we divide...

8 divided by 6 equals 1.33

Now if we plug that into the equation as 1 and 1/3...

1 and 1/3 - 2/3 + 1/6

2/3 + 1/6

4/6 + 1/6 = 5/6

So that means your answer is decimal 1.33 or mixed fraction 1 and 1/3

x is a negative one (-1). The negative one makes it so that the -2/3 is a positive when they multiply.
