Traci wants to buy rings that cost 50$ each. A jewler is offering a deal in which you buy 1 ring and get the 2nd for 25% off and the 3rd fo 50% off. The sales tax is 8%. Traci will buy 3 rings. How much money will Traci save using the deal instead of paying full price for all rings?

Answer:

$40.50ยข

Explanation:

First Deal

Step 1: Multiply 3 rings to 50

50 * 3 = 150

Step 2: Find the sales tax of the total cost (result)

  • Let "y" be the variable

(8)/(100) * (150)/(y) = 12

  • Add the result to the total price

150 + 12 = 162

Second Deal

1 Ring = $50

2 rings = $37.5

Step 1: Find 25% off the original price

  • Let "y" be the variable

(25)/(100) * (50)/(y) = 12.5

  • Subtract the result from the original price

50 - 12.5 = 37.5

3 Rings = $25

Step 1: Find 50% off the original price

  • Let "y" be the variable

(50)/(100) * (50)/(y) = 25

  • Subtract the result from the original price

50 - 35 = 25

Total calculation

Step 1: Add all the results together

50 + 37.5 + 25 = 112.5

Sales Tax

Find the sale tax of the total amount of the second deal

Step 1: Let "y" be the variable

(8)/(100) * (112.5)/(y) = 9

Step 2: Add the result to the total price

113.5 + 9 = 121.5

How much was saved

Step 1: Subtract the Second deal from the First Deal

162.0 - 121.5 = 40.5

Taci will save $40.50 if she used the second deal instead of the first deal.

The first ring is $50, the second ring is 37.50 and the third ring is 25.00
The total of the rings before tax is 112.50 and $121.50 after tax
