The phenomenon of salmon swimming upstream to spawn would be an example of "Instinct".Salmon are conceived in fresh water and most experience their grown-up lives in the sea. At that point they make an unimaginable upstream adventure to spawn at the similar spots that they were incubated. Just Kokanee salmon don't make this trip; they experience their entire lives in a freshwater stream or lake.
