Organisms living in aquatic environments are affected by physical factors like temperature, salinity, the force of the waves and the availability of light. These factors can limit the dispersal of organisms in the ecosystem.
Biotic factors like competition and predation can also limit the living areal of certain organisms. Organisms can competitively exclude other in certain habitats and some organisms can be limited by the presence of predators.
