When Japan was defeated in World War II, the United States took the Allies in the occupation and rehabilitation of the Japanese state. Between 1945 and 1952, the U.S. occupying forces, led by General Douglas A. MacArthur, enactedwidespread military, political, economic, and social reforms.ยจ

Japan was in ruins. Some of the cities were severely damaged and others were almost destroyed.

Starvation and malnutrition. No food.

No fuel. No electricity. No medicine.

Everything was pretty much destroyed.
