May someone help me understand 2 step equations


3y + 6 = 12

Answer:

= 2

Explanation:

3 + 6 = 1 2

subtract 6 from both sides of the equation

3 + 6 − 6 = 1 2 − 6

3 = 1 2 − 6

3y/3 = 6/3

y = 6/3

y = 2

Now that you have the problem set up you need to combine like terms. There is only one “y” so you leave that alone. There two numbers that are by themselves, so you would combine them. The only thing is that since 6 is on the opposite side you need to somehow put it to the other. What’s the opposite of adding? Subtracting! Now you have 3y=6. Okay so now you need to get y by itself. You divide three where 3 is so 3/3=1 so now the y is by itself. Then divide 6/3 to get 2!
