Answer: The process of Reconstruction in the postwar South.

Step-by-step explanation:

President Grant initially fought hard to enforce the federal efforts to reconstruct the postwar South. But southern resistance to “Radical rule” increased and turned violent. In Grayson County, Texas, three whites murdered three former slaves. The prototype of all the terrorist groups was the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), organized in 1866 by some young men of Pulaski, Tennessee, as a social club, with the costumes and secret rituals common to fraternal groups. Despite their innocent start, it rapidly transformed in a violent group that targeted Blacks and White republicans. With their success other groups such as Louisiana’s Knights of the White Camelia and Mississippi’s White Line followed KKK and spread fast in the south.
