basically just plug the number in, set them equal to each other, and see if the equation is true...

1/2(-2)+3=|-2|

-1+3=2

2=2

1/2(2)+3=|2|

1+3=2

4=2

1/2(3)+3=|3|

1.5+3=3

4.5=3

1/2(-6)+3=|-6|

-3+3=6

0=6

the only one that is a true statement is x=-2
