Distance from 5 to 12 on the number lines = 12 - 5 = 7
This distance is expressed by the expression 3x - 2.
So,
3x - 2 = 7
3x = 7 + 2
3x = 9
x =9/3
x = 3
Thus, the value of x is 3 .
