You need to make 2 equations one for the real part of the complex number and another from the imaginary part . So for Q 9:-

2x = 4 so x = 2

and x + y = -5
so 2 + y = -5
y = -7
so the answer is x = 2 and y = -7

(x - iy) + (y + xi) = 1 - 5i
x + y + xi - yi = 1 - 5i
x + y = 1
x - y = -5
adding:-
2x = -4
so x = -2

-2 - y = -5
y = 5-2 = 3

So x = -2 and y = 3
