False

Dennis Banks (1937-2017) was a Native American and was never mayor of Los Angeles. He was co-founder and longtime leader of the American Indian Movement (AIM).

When Antonio Villaraigosa was elected mayor of Los Angeles in 2005, he became the first Latino mayor of that city since Jose Cristobal Aguilar, who had served as Los Angeles' mayor in the 1860s and 1870s.

The National League of Cities lists Henry Cisneros, who was mayor of San Antonio from 1981 to 1989, as the first Mexican-American mayor of a major city.
