Each of the moments where Santiago sees into the Soul of World are moments that show all things are connected. Santiago actually smells Fatima before he meets her. When he's in Andalusia, he talks about the scent of the Levanter from Africa. At the end, he repeats this thought and tells her he is coming. His immediate connection to her, and hers to him, shows that they were destined for each other just like he's meant to go to the pyramids. The second example is the most direct example of how everything is connected. If it wasn't there's no way he'd be able to turn himself into the wind or for the Alchemist to make gold.
