A jar of dimes and quarters is worth $4.55. If there are the same number of dimes as quarters, what is the value of only the dimes?

$1.30.  You can take the two statements and make them into equations.  First set X equal to the number of dimes and Y equal to the number of quarters.  Next set up your equations.  the first .1X times .25Y=4.55 and X=Y.  Next use substitution to solve for X, and you get 13.  Next multiply 13 times .1 to get 1.3 which is in dollars.
