3a + 11 > 5
Subtract 11 from both sides.

3a > -6
Divide both sides by 3.

a > -2

You can solve this algebraically

3a + 11 > 5

Subtract 11 from both sides

3a > -6

Divide both sides by 3

a > -2

The answer is any number that is greater than -2
