The picture below shows a container that Rene uses to freeze water: A cylinder is shown with base diameter of 6 centimeters and the height as 8 centimeters. What is the minimum number of identical containers that Rene would need to make 2000 cm3 of ice? (Use π = 3.14.)

The cylinder has base diameter of 6 centimeters and the height,
h, of 8 centimeters.

Since the base diameter of the cylinder is 6 cm, therefore, it's radius,
r, will be 3 cm.

Now, we know that the volume,
V, of such a cylinder will be:

V=\pi r^2h

Plugging in the values given we get the volume to be:

V=\pi(3)^2* 8=3.14*9*8=226.08
cm^3

Since Rene needs to make 2000
cm^3 of ice and one cylinder's volume is 226.08
cm^3, Rene would need...

(2000)/(226.08)\approx8.846\approx\boldsymbol{9} such identical cylindrical containers.
