Part A :

So the two sides are equivalent,


9x - 18 = 3x

Solve for x and get 3.

Answer : x = 3

Part B :

To find JM, simply substitute x for 3 and solve,


9(3) - 18

27 - 18 = 9

Answer : JM = 9
