x²
+2x=17
Group terms that contain the same variable
(x²+2x)=17
Complete the square. Remember to balance the equation
(x²+2x+1)=17+1
Rewrite as perfect squares(x+1)²=18
x+1=(+/-)√18x=(+/-)√18-1x1=√18-1----> 3.24x2=-√18-1----> -5.24
