Hello!

You have to find out how many cubes are in 1 layer

You do this by multiplying the amount across by the amount along the side.

12 * 6 = 72

Divide this by the amount of cubes

288 / 72 = 4

There are 4 layers

The answer is 4

Hope this helps!
