Answer: x = 5

Steps:
1. subtract 9 from both sides (3x = 24 - 9)
2. Subtract 9 from 24 to get 15 (3x = 15)
3. Divide both sides by 3 (x = 15/3)
4. Divide 15 by 3 to get 5 (x = 5)
