They may also be used to treat severe anxiety and severe depressions.

The effects of the antipsychotic medications on the reticular activating system which is the answer moderates spontaneous activity thus decreasing it's reactivity to stimuli. The reticular activating system also known as RAS is a part of the brain located in the top of the spine extending around 2 inches upward. It makes the brain not to deal with more information than it can accommodate then.
