It is given that the width of the border is 2[ (12 + 2x) + (15 + 2x) ] = 74
Solve x:
2[ (12 + 2x) + (15 + 2x) ] = 74
2 [ 12 + 2x + 15 + 2x) ] = 74
2[27 + 4x] = 74
27 + 4x = 37
4x = 10
x = 2.5 feet = 2 1/2 feet
Answer: 2 1/2 feet
