This is a false statement.

A predictor variable, sometimes called as independent or explanatory variable, is a variable which is often manipulated by the experimenter and most of the time represent the reasons for the observed variation in the sample studied. In our case, the age of the males is the predictor variable.

The male's cholesterol level is the response variable, or also called dependent variable, since it probably depends on the age of the participants.
