Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH)
Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) enzymes are found in many organisms. These enzymes break down alcohol in the stomach and they also take part in the production of aldehyde and alcohol groups during the formation of various metabolites. Women have a lesser quantity of the alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme than men and therefore, women’s blood level is higher than that of men when they take a little alcohol.
