Jason is working in his garden. The garden is triangular. The length of the longest side is 10 feet. He uses a portion of the garden for herbs. The portion is a similar triangle whose longest side is 4 feet. What is the percentage of the area of the herb garden compared to the area of the entire garden?

To get the percentage of area we shall proceed as follows:
linear scale factor =length of herb/ length of garden
=4/10
but
area scale factor=(linear scale factor)^2
area scale factor=(2/5)^2=4/25
thus the percentage area proportion will be:
4/25*100
=16%
