Carrie is planning her birthday party at a restaurant. She cannot spend more than $75 on the party. The cost per person for the meal is $12. There is also a $10 charge for the room. The number of friends, f, that Carrie can invite is represented by the inequality 12f + 10 < 75. How many friends can Carrie invite to the party if her budget is $75 or less? 5

You already know that since you need to pay 10$ for the room you would do 75-10 and you have 65$ left. 12 goes into 65 5 times, because 12x5=60. You then have 5 dollars left. So Carrie can invite 5 people to her birthday party.
