Long-term use of aspirin or aspirin-like medications can deplete iron reserves.

If the use of aspirin is continued over the long-term, iron-deficiency anaemia can result. The mechanism suggested for lowering of the iron stores with aspirin use is mucosal blood loss (small blood losses, unnoticed by the person).
