United states government adopted a separation of power. Meaning that the government is divided into several branches and each branches had their own duty to fuifll.

The supreme court is a part of judiciery branch, and its main duty is to interpret the law and resolving conflicts between individuals in the country. This mean that when it comes to promoting social progress, there is a question on the limitation that the supreme court can do to not interferring with the duty of both executive and legislative branch.
