38.75 or 38 3/4

Explanation:

3 1/2 * 5 = 17.5

4 1/4 * 5 = 21.25

17.5 + 21.25 = 38.75

Answer:

3 1/2 x 5 = 17.5

4 1/2 x 5 = 22.5

17.5 + 22.5 = 40
