Answer:

valence electrons are the electron in an outermost shell of an atom of an element (it is also called the outermost electron).

They are important for bonding because, when you bond two or more atom of an element, it is the outermost electron (valence electron) that will do the sharing of electrons when two atoms are bonded together.
