Students in a middle school must choose to take either Band or Chorus. In a given academic year, 60% of the pupils choose Band and the rest choose Chorus. 30% of the students who are taking Band are girls, and 70% who are taking Chorus are girls. If a student is randomly selected from this academic year, what is the probability that it is a boy?

54%

70% of the 60% of people taking band are boys. Multiply .70 by .60 to get .42 or 42%.

Also, 30% of the 40% of people taking chorus are boys. Multiply the .30 by .40 to get .12 or 12%.

Add the two answers together for the final answer here.
