No matter which way the sphere is slice the answer is always a circle.  If you cut a sphere in half and looked at one half, it would have a circular inside, CIRCULAR = CIRCLE.  Have a great day.

Answer:

Circle

Explanation:

Any given cross section,( whether it is diagonal or horizontal or vertical) slices a sphere in two parts and two circles (2D figure) on top of each.

1) Due to the right angle of a cross section (90º)

2) A sphere is perfectly round
