moved into areas where people spoke their language
This was common in history since they would have an easier time getting accustomed to a new life. That's why you have areas that are highly influenced by German people or by Spaniards or Slavs. One such example is that many Slavs from the Balkans area went to places like Illinois and Wisconsin settling around Chicago and Milwaukee.
