Answer:

Explanation:

Equationi

2x+1 + 2y+1 = 12 The +1 guarantees that the number is odd. 2x makes any integer even.

Givens

L = 2x + 1

W = 2y + 1

The problem is that you do not have a second equation. So you can just choose.

2x + 1 + 2y + 1 = 12 Combine the left

2x + 2y + 2 = 12 Subtract 2 from both sides

2x + 2y + 2 - 2 = 12 - 2

2x + 2y = 10

x = 3

y = 2

======

x = 2

y = 3

======

L= 3*2 + 1

w = 2*2 + 1

L = 7

w = 5

I don't think there is another solution. The negatives cannot be used because a length or width cannot be (say)

x = - 5

y = 11

Can you measure something that is - 5 units long? Not in this lifetime.
