Marshall is painting a 14 ft. by 16 ft. room with 9 ft. ceilings. The room has one door and one window. He estimates that he will need [9(14 + 16) • 2 – (8 • 4 + 12 • 9)] ÷ 40 quarts of paint. Simplify the number of quarts of paint he will need.

[9(14 + 16) • 2 – (8 • 4 + 12 • 9)] = 400

400 / 40 = 10

The answer is 10 quarts of paint.
