Coccidioidomycosis (also called Valley fever) is a disease caused by the fungus Coccidioides immitis or Coccidioides posadasii. It is contracted by inhaling fungal spores. Coccidioidomycosis is not a communicable disease. Symptoms of coccidioidomycosis include fever, chest pain, muscle aches and coughing.
