The lysogenic cycle is a viral replication cycle that does not kill the host immediately. The lytic cycle is initiated when the provirus leaves the chromosome of the host cell. The entry phase of the lysogenic cycle, when the virus attaches to the plasma membrane of the host and then injects its nucleic acid into the cell or undergoes endocytosis, is similar to the lytic cycle.
