How do the results of the iodine test indicate that hydrolysis of starch has occurred

Iodine gives blue color when starch is present, if hydrolysis has occurred this blue color should disappear.

Answer:

Starch is a polysaccharide which is stored as a reservoir for energy. It provides energy as like like of other polysaccharide.

The presence of starch or polysaccharide is tested by the help of iodine test. Starch turns the solution into blue black when aqueous solution of triiodine anion is added to it.

This happens because of the inter molecular charge transfer complex. The Cu2+ changes into Cu+.
