2x = (4)/(x+1)

Cross- Multiply:

2x (x + 1) = 4

Distribute 2x:

2x^2 + 2x = 4

Subtract 4 from both sides:

2x^2 + 2x - 4 = 0

Divide both sides by 2:

x^2 + x - 2 = 0

Factorise:

( x + 2)(x - 1) = 0

Apply zero product property:

x = 2 \ or \ x = 1
