Determined to overturn the Vietnam syndrome, President Reagan sent troops to Lebanon and Grenada. US Marines were sent to Lebanon in 1982 to supervise the the withdrawal of Palestinian troops from Lebanon.
On August 25, 1983, President Reagan ordered the US Marines to invade Grenada and protect the almost 1,000 Americans living in Grenada. Most of them were medical students in the island. Reagan's reason was the threat to the Americans by the Marxist government of the island.
