multiply (1st) equation by 7 and (2nd) equation by 5

35a + 84p = $61.46 (1st)
35a + 40p = $39.90 (2nd)

44p = $21.56
p = $0.49

5a + 12p = $8.78
5a + 12($0.49) = $8.78
5a + $5.88 = $8.78
5a = $2.9
a = $0.58
