Assuming apples = x, peaches = y

5x + 12y = 8.78 \\ 7x + 8y = 7.98

5x + 12y = 8.78 \\ 5x = 8.78 - 12y \\ x = 1.756 - 2.4y

Substitute that into

7(1.756 - 2.4y) + 8y = 7.98 \\ 12.292 - 16.8y + 8y = 7.98 \\8.8y = 4.312 \\ y = 0.49

Substitute that into

x = 1.756 - 2.4(0.49) \\ x = 1.756 - 1.176 \\ x = 0.58

Answer:
Each apple = $0.58,
each peach = $0.49

Hope this helps. - M
