we have

y=2x^(2) -8

Step 1

Exchanges the variables x for y and y for x

x=2y^(2) -8

Step 2

Isolate the variable y

2y^(2)=x+8

y^(2)= (x+8)/(2)

Square root both sides

y=(+/-)\sqrt{(x+8)/(2)}

Step 3

Let

f(x)^(-1)=y

f(x)^(-1)=(+/-)\sqrt{(x+8)/(2)}

therefore

the answer is

The inverse is equal to
f(x)^(-1)=(+/-)\sqrt{(x+8)/(2)}
