Bartholomew Diaz became appointed a captain in cabral's fleet. The original destination was India, but Bartholomew Diaz and the others made a wrong turn into the South Atlantic

Bartholomew Diaz became the captain of one of Cabra's ships. They were supposed to go to India, but they instead were redirected while in the South Atlantic Ocean.
