The newer second generation drugs (atypical antipsychotics) are group of antipsychotic drugs used to treat psychiatric conditions. Some common atypical antipsychotics include Abilify, Clozaril, Invega, Risperdal and Seroque. Although atypical antipsychotics are thought to be safer than typical antipsychotics but they still have a severe side effect, which includes significant weight gain, blood clots, diabetes, tardive dyskinesia (a serious movement disorder), neuroleptic malignant syndrome, and increased risk of stroke.
