Josh is hiking Glacier National Park. He has now hiked a total of 17 km and is 2 km short of being 1/2 of the way done with his hike. Write an equation to determine the total length in kilometers (h) of Josh’s hike.

He is 2km short of halfway:
⇒ 17 + 2 = 19 km

He is halfway:
19 x 2 = 38 km

Total distance for the hike = 38km

Let

h-------> the total length in kilometers of Josh’s hike

we know that

(h)/(2) =(17+2) ------> equation to determine the total length in kilometers

Solve for h

Multiply by
2 both sides

2*(h)/(2) =2*(17+2)

h=2*(19)

h=38\ km

therefore

the answer is

The equation to determine the total length in kilometers is

(h)/(2) =(17+2)

The total length in kilometers of Josh’s hike is

38\ km
