What is the value for x in the proportion x+8/5x-2=3/8

(x+8)/(5x-2) = (3)/(8)

Cross-multiply:

8(x + 8) = 3(5x - 2)

Distribute 8 and 3:

8x + 64= 15x - 6

Isolate x to the left:

15x - 8x = 64 + 6

Combine like terms:

7x = 70

Divide by 7:

x = 10
