What happens when oil is poured into water? How does this explain the saying “like dissolves like”

Water (H2O) is a polar molecule. Oil is a non-polar molecule which does not dissolve with water. Oil remains separate from water. Water is most attracted to other polar solutes that are capable of being dissolved in it.

I can't explain the like dissolves like part but the water and oil I can

when oil is poured into water the oil will stay at the top of the water meaning that water is more dense than oil
