Population of 100 flowering plants contain 60 plants that are Homozygous for orange flowers, 30 plants that are heterozygous for orange flowers, and 10 plants that are homozygous for white flowers. Determine the frequency for the O allele in the frequency for the o allele in this population. Show your work. #4

Frequency of an allele = number of desired allele in the population / total number of alleles in the population

Here there are two alleles as 'O' (dominant allele) and 'o' (recessive allele)

Since there are 100 flowers, the total number of alleles is 100 x 2 = 200.

Homozygous flowers have OO alleles while heterozygous have Oo alleles.
O alleles in homozygous flowers = 60 x 2 = 120
O alleles in heterozygous flowers= 30 x 1 = 30
Hence, total O alleles = 120 + 30 = 150

Frequency of O allele = 150 / 200 = 0.75
